Lead Team -

Arturo and I met with Todd again from Saxton-Bradley. He shared both an initial bottom-line cost as well as what he saw in each room after hearing from members of both teams. A lot of questions were raised that I need your input on to help give him answers. Please respond (or have answers ready when I see you next) to the following questions, if they apply to you (or even if they don't apply & you want to give your two cents).
I have printed images/maps of the classrooms and what they have, so I hope to see each of you this week to talk about your rooms specifically. Have answers to these questions at that time.
1) Pre-K - what size kidney shaped table? 60 or 72 inches across?
2) Does everybody want a stool to teach from? Do you think all teachers would want one? Or would you rather (maybe primary teachers) have a rocking chair for meeting/reading times?
3) K - number of students at each table? 4 or 6? Do you have a need for even smaller tables for when you break into work groups?
4) 1st grade - tables or desks?
5) Right now the document camera space is on a single, spare student desk. Does that work for everyone? Other ideas (remember, your projector will be mounted)?
6) All rooms will have students desks (or tables), student chairs, a spare student desk (see #5), a teacher desk and chair (and maybe a kidney table - see #7), and some form of a spare work/break-out/experiment table. Do you want that to be round or rectangular?
7) Does everyone need a kidney table, or do we cut that off at 3rd grade (or another grade) and move to a rectangular table (differnt from the table in #6)? Renee, what do you see best for remediation?
8) We have color options on table and desk tops (the edges will be gray or black and the legs will be metallic/silver)...does anyone have a strong preference? We could easily go with a "wood" look that matches the cabinetry, or we could go black, or gray, or ???
9) Be thinking of whole-group space in your classroom. Where will you meet for morning meeting, calendar time, read-alouds, etc. It will help if we have that identified before they deliver furniture (they will place the furniture exactly where we want it when they deliver and assemble).
10) 4th-6th - do you see a need for a second table for projects, break-out groups, experiments, etc.?
11) Library - how much space do you need for file cabinets? Do you see yourself using 1, 2, 3, or ??? & would you like to see them shorter so they can form a counter space in your office? S/B can put a flat counter top on them if they are short and side-by-side.
12) How many desks/tables should we have in the "computer lab"? Remember, we decided to use this space not so much as a computer lab, but as project space (for art, science, break-out work space from your room, an extension of the CCTV space, etc.). What, then, do you see as furniture needs in there?
13) Conference room table(s). Do you see it as one larger table/desk, or several smaller ones that fit together? My two cents on this is that we get one nice big one. I don't see us seperating in that small space & multiple ones could lead to an uneven surface, but I am open to hearing from you.
14) Staff lounge - How many tables do we need? Round, square or rectangular? How many people do you see using this space at one time?
Thanks for putting thought to these questions. Again, I plan to swing by to see the classroom teachers soon and could collect input from them at that time, but ALL are welcome to send input on any and all of these items via email, if you wish.
Guy
